CW Recycling is a wholly owned company of Cheshire West and Chester Council.  The Council has a successful history of service delivery via arms-length companies, with other organisations delivering estates maintenance (Avenue Services), leisure services (Brio Leisure), services to schools (Qwest Services) and Edsential Community Interest Company delivery education services. Our arms-length organisations are well placed to operate with a commercial mind but a cooperative heart, where achieving the best outcomes for communities, residents, children and young people is our absolute goal.

CW Recycling were established in 2019, responsible for recycling, garden waste and residual waste, making over 300,000 collections per week with a team of over 300 local people, operating over 100 frontline collection vehicles. We place our communities at the heart of everything we do, driving environmental change, addressing climate change, behaviour change and being at the heart of keeping our neighbourhoods clean and safe.

We have already delivered the first phase of the Council’s waste strategy including new fleet, new recycling containers and improved recycling rates. However, we have ambitious plans to go further including new and improved depots, further investment in our fleet, new vehicle maintenance services, and a significant capital investment in upgrading our materials recovery facility. We are also driving our commercial business, seeking new revenue streams, exploring additional services that we can deliver and innovating to reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfill.

Our Chair will be central to our future, working with the board, Managing Director, colleagues and stakeholders, you will support the strategic development of the company ensuring that we progress our objectives whilst embodying our principles and values. We want our new Chair to spend time investing in our people to ensure that we are equipped to meet our future commitments. Strong governance principles will be essentially, as well as an understanding of how local government operates, which may come from experience within the sector or allied organisations.

We hope the role is of interest and look forward to receiving your application.
